City originally known as Hardyville and was named such until the town burned down in 1873. It was reborn as Bullhead City in the 1940s as a base camp for the building of the Davis Dam. Below is a description of Hardyville by Will C. Barnes.
"On Colorado River about 10 miles north of Fort Mohave. After Captain W. H. Hardy who established a trading post and ferry here in 1864. Important river point often called Hardy's Landing. Was at head of steamboat transportation. McClintock says: "Haryd had an extensive place here. There was a store, warehouse, hotel, blacksmith shop, and several dwellings." Arizona Sentinel March 20, 1873. Mentions the total destruction of Hardyvill by fire on Marhc 18, 1873. Post Office established June 7, 1865, Wooster M. Hardy, Post Master."
