"The first name for this location was Marinette, named in 1912 by homesteaders for their home town in Wisconsin. In 1955 a real estate development began constructing a retirement community under the euphemistic name Youngtown. PO est as Marinette, March 4, 1912, EJ Helsley PM, Name changed to Youngtown, Jan 1, 1958."

Brief History

    In 1954, real estate broker Ben Schleifer and banker Clarence Suggs formed Youngtown Land and Investment Co. and bought 320 acres of farmland. They buildt the first master-planned, adult community dedicated exclusively to retirees. Youngtown was incorporated in 1960 and became the first city occupied soley by senior citizens.
