"According to Lumholtz, there are natural cavities in the ground at this village of Kohatk Pima Indians. To quote one informant, "As far as it being named for caves, I know of no caves in the vicinity and I have lived close to those mountains and climbed some of them many years." Bryan spells the name Tschuhutscho or Tjuitjo. The name has been misspelled Chuichuschu, and Chiu Chuschu, but the usual form is Chuichu. Whites tend to pronounce this "Choochoo". According to white informants, Indians could hear the train and called the train Chuichu, which finally evolved into the name of the village.
