"On branch road Prescott to Middleton. Important sheep shipping point. Named for John K. Cordes, first Post Master and early settler. Before the railroad came, known as Antelope station. They asked for that name for their Post Office but there already was an Antelope. Cordes then decided to name it after his family. Thomas Cordes, father of John K., was U.S. Internal Revenue Collector for Arizona at Prescott, 1882. Post Office Established June 9, 1886, John K. Cordes Post Master."
