"John Thomas Eagar (b. December 20, 1851; d. March 12, 1942) with his brothers Joel and William and the Robertsons took up homesteads in Round Valley early in its recorded history. The date on their deed is 1878. John had moved to Fort Milligan and from there to the site the town of Eagar where he lived for twenty-five years. The town was established in 1888 on ground given by the Eagar brothers for that purpose. At first the community was called Union, but the name soon changed to Eagarville which was retained until December 1892, when the "ville" was dropped in renaming the school district. A notable battle of outlaws took place on the hill back of what is now the Eager cemetery. Nine men of the Snider gang were killed. Post Office opens February 4, 1898."
