Military Posts and Forts
In order to maintain government control and protect white settlers in the area from Apaches and other Indian threats, a series of Forts were established to help protect them.  Not all forts are written about here. For a full list, you should try some of the selections below in the General Books selection. Frontier Military Posts of Arizona by Ray Brandes is the best work and the most comprehensive. Most of the information on the forts written about here was pulled from this book as it is one of the best sources, if not the best.
