"In July 1881, John M. Moody bought the Conley Ranch where in 1882 he was joined by four other Mormon families. Layton selected the first townsite on May 13, 1883, but in 1885 chose a new townsite one half mile to the south on higher land that he purchased October 9, 1885. The name had already been selected as a result of a Christmas visit by the Mormon Apostle Moses Thatcher together with Apostle Erasmus Snow in 1882."

Post Office Established March 10, 1888.
